Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20 1964) was an American lawyer, politician and vice president of the United States. Harris is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was she was a United States senator representing California in 2017-2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to being enlisted into the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected the district attorney of San Francisco. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and cannabis legalization as a pathway to citizenship of undocumented immigrants, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She was praised nationally due to her sharp examination of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and was accused of sexual assault.
